In this class we will look at Blocks, Taxonomy, CCK, & Views. This is an intermediate level class so it is assumed that you have used Drupal before attending. With Blocks we will look at creating and positioning blocks, as well as adding new block regions to the template. We will use CCK to create a custom content type with custom fields, then use the Views module to create custom displays for this content. Finally, we will use the Taxonomy module to categorize our content, and pass these categories into Views as arguments. This class will be excellent for anyone who has spent a little time with Drupal already and wants to learn more of it's flexibility.
Jonathan Daggerhart has been developing websites with Drupal since 2005 and has used it to create everything from simple e-commerce sites, to social networks and corporate intranets. RSVP to

Programming Without Code: An Introduction to Visual Programming October 12, 2010 11:00am - 12:45pm Location: A-B Tech, Enka campus, Incubator Building, Training room 2046 (directions) Presented by Ben Mason, Designer, TekKind Media Today's programming tasks rely mostly on code, scripts that break process into sequential steps using abstracted language. While effective, these approaches often present barriers to intuitive communication and understanding. An alternative to script, visual flow programming (VP) presents process as the "flow" of data between graphical objects. Found in stand-alone environments or integrated with other tools, VP encodes process, mapping the steps or sequence of activity within a visual metaphor. Visual programming is a valuable resource for rapid prototyping, interactive development, and visualization. Innately modular, VP also supports embedded code or function reuse, and eases communication by displaying processes literally. For artists, VP simplifies the task of programming, making the computer more accessible. In the first half of this class we will explore the basics of visual programming, later breaking into groups for a hands-on brainstorming and development exercise. Working from an introduction to key concepts, we'll cover basic principles, walk through several examples, and experiment with a running interactive framework in real-time.
Ben works with mixed digital media, investigating the increasingly expressive elements of sight, sound, and movement exposed by rapidly advancing technology. Ben also owns and operates TekKind, a multimedia studio that provides original design and creative services in identity, photo, video, social web, and interactive development. With more than fourteen years of professional experience, Ben is also available as a consultant helping businesses and individuals implement advanced media and digital production. RSVP to
