Presented by Jonathan Daggerhart, Web
Developer
Drupal (pronounced /ˈdru-pal/) is a free and open source modular framework and Content Management System (CMS) written in the programming language PHP. It is used as a "back end" system for many different types of web sites, ranging from small personal blogs to large corporate and political sites. Although Drupal offers a sophisticated programming interface for developers, no programming skills are required for basic web site installation and administration.
We will start by discussing
the basic knowledge needed to understand and configure a Drupal website,
focusing on vocabulary. We'll examine the important core modules which come
with the Drupal installation, including how each works and some theory behind
their design and necessity. After explaining how to use Drupal out of the
box, I will look at some important contributed modules available and show how
you can use them as powerful tools for creating and displaying almost any type
of content. By the end the presentation you should be familiar with how
to navigate, maintain, and configure a basic Drupal website.
Jonathan became interested in building websites at the age of 14 when he wanted
to take his BBS to an online format. With books and Google searches, he
taught himself PHP, MySQL, (x)HTML, CSS and Javascript. In 2005, he discovered
Drupal and has used it to design simple brochure sites, games, and social
networks.
